Agent support
Your API has human support. What about the agents using it?
Claude, ChatGPT agent, Cursor and custom automations now use your product on behalf of your customers. When one of them fails, it retries in a loop, spams your chat, or gives up and its owner churns. Wellknown gives every product a machine-readable front desk.
Free to start. $19 per month. First 20 products get set up for free.
Try it in 30 seconds
Our own support runs on Wellknown and answers from our spec, on a temporary host until our domain is live. No account, no key.
Ask over HTTP
curl -X POST https://mcp-production-db7f.up.railway.app/v1/ask \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"question": "Where does a vendor publish its support card, and which tools can it declare?"}'{
"answer": "The documentation says a support card is a JSON document published at a well-known URL [...] The card's `tools` array can list any of `ask`, `act`, `escalate` and `status`.",
"citations": [
{
"url": "https://wellknown.support/spec#3-document-format",
"title": "Support Card specification > 3. Document format",
"quote": "Array of tool names available: any of `ask`, `act`, `escalate`, `status`"
}
],
"confidence": 0.85,
"next": "read"
}An answer, the passages it rests on, and a next step for the agent: retry, fix_request, read or escalate.
Or add it to your agent as an MCP server
claude mcp add --transport http wellknown https://mcp-production-db7f.up.railway.app/mcp{
"mcpServers": {
"wellknown": { "url": "https://mcp-production-db7f.up.railway.app/mcp" }
}
}Claude Desktop or claude.ai: add a custom connector under Connectors with the same URL, no sign-in. Then ask your agent how to publish a support card.
Not in the docs? The server answers “Not found in the documentation”, with no citations and next: escalate. It does not make up an answer.
escalate opens a ticket that a human answers. The agent gets a ticket_id and polls status for the reply.
A minimal support card
Seven fields. An agent reads it first, then calls the MCP endpoint it declares. Validate yours in the validator.
curl https://wellknown.support/.well-known/support.json{
"version": "0.1",
"product": { "name": "Acme API", "url": "https://acme.dev", "docs": "https://docs.acme.dev" },
"support": { "mcp": { "url": "https://acme.wellknown.support/mcp", "transport": "streamable-http" } },
"tools": ["ask", "escalate", "status"],
"verification": { "levels": [0] },
"contact": { "email": "support@acme.dev" },
"updated": "2026-09-07"
}How it works
- 1
Publish a support card
One JSON file at /.well-known/support.json tells any agent where to get help: your support endpoint, the tools it offers, the verification you accept, a human fallback. Hosted by us or served from your domain.
- 2
Agents ask, with citations
The agent opens an MCP session and calls ask with the error it hit. It gets a short answer grounded in your docs, the exact passages cited, and a next step: retry, fix the request, read, or escalate.
- 3
Humans get the hard ones
When docs are not enough, escalate hands the full context to your Slack or inbox: question, attempts, verified principal. The agent gets a ticket id, an ETA and a status URL it can poll.
- 4
The owner gets a receipt
Every closed conversation sends a receipt to the agent's human: resolved via Wellknown for your product, with a public link. No transcript, no secrets. That is how they learn their agent got help.
Pricing
Priced per agent conversation: a session of ask, escalate and status with one agent on one card. Free never cuts your card off; over quota, agents are routed to your human contact.

An open standard, not a lock-in
The support card and the four tools (ask, act, escalate, status) are specified under CC0. Point your card at our hosted server or at your own. Validate any card, from any vendor, for free.
